Welcome to the art and photography page! I'll be posting pieces from my favourite artists, photographers, etc. I will include a brief description of the artist and pieces as well as an explanation as to why i like it. Stay tuned!
Nyanza D
These pieces are from one of my favorite artists, Nyanza D. She is a Tumblr based artist who draws and digitally edits portraits. her pieces in her pop art series, Monchi, are largely influenced by 1960s black feminists, the UK garage era, 1990s Lil Kim, fashion editorials, 1970s comics, Sailor Moon, Grace Jones, and her own Nigerian/Tanzanian heritage.
These are a few of my favourites from the Monchi series. As you can see, the pieces feature women of color with pastel colored features such as hair and lipsticks. The retro-futuristic look of this series is why I am so in love this series. Also, I love how Nyanza incorporates various races, skin tones and hair textures into her art because it makes her pieces vibrantly diverse.
If you'd like to purchase any of these pieces or see more of Nyanza's art, visit her tumblr : http://nyanzad.tumblr.com/ . And to purchase her work, visit: https://www.etsy.com/ca/people/monchicards

ME!
For my photography class, we were asked to do a photojournalism project with the topic of our choice. I decided to do microaggressions (of course, lol) and I was quite proud of the results so I wanted to publish my work. Here it is!
SlantI strongly believe that it is crucial for people to respond to microaggressions appropriately and accordingly if we want our society to evolve. By properly addressing and responding to microaggressions, you are educating your fellow humans. To convey this, I used 5 of my classmates who have experienced microaggressions. Each of them have a sad look on their face. I overlayed they’re portraits with a microaggressive comment or question that has been said to them.
thesisMicroaggressions are complex due to the fact that they are unintentionally discriminatory .Through these photos, I want to help my audience become more aware of microaggressions and to get a sense of what a microaggression looks like.

Me Again!
Slant & Thesis
I decided to do yet another photojournalism project but, this time my topic was cyber prejudice.Prejudice is the act of prejudgment, or forming an opinion before becoming aware of the relevant facts of a case. The act of cyber prejudice is acutely similar and only differs due to the fact that cyber prejudice is done online with the use of the internet and the different media outlets within it. To bring light to this issue, I used 3 subjects from different minorities and placed a google search bar with the top hits that came up when I typed in something pertaining to them on their faces. This was to emphasis the fact that these prejudiced results are what make our society believe these lies and refrain from listening when they are trying to be told the truth.
Although cyber prejudice is a term I coined myself, I feel as though it is quite prevalent amongst our society. Millions of people rely on search engines such as Google to give them accurate answers on things they are unfamiliar with. If the top hits are prejudiced results, then our society will start to form wrong prejudgements and in the process hurt and offend other people. I want my audience to become aware of this.

Artistic Influences
My artistic influences were Memac Ogilvy and Mather Dubai. Their ad series for UN Women is what inspired me to use the Google search overlay. However, rather than having misogyny and sexism as my main focus , I decided to focus on prejudice against a variety of minorities. Here are some of the photos from their series:
